New Fear Same President

There is an opacity to being transgender in society.By this I mean that trans people often only show you what they need to in order to survive. Often those who identify as transgender still live with family members who don’t accept them for their identities. They master the art of showing and not telling because revealing too much can put you in danger. In this landscape of code switching from hatefulness of blood family to the outside acceptance of found family, transgender people often lead double lives. In this work I want to explore the transient nature of being trans through the mundane sounds of everyday life and dual images of places and people I saw growing up.  In not saying too much I want to show a childhood of loss, self acceptance and longing.Playing with audiences' sense of nostalgia and anxiety to represent this in between existence not ever quite knowing how much to reveal about one’s identity is or isn't. The transient knowing that when you leave your home to go to a place you rest your head no one's kept the light on for you.
